Staring

graphite, ink, and gouache
30.5 x 22.9 cm (12" x 9")

This was done last night. The model is an actor. Despite his intense and serious stare, he is quite light-hearted, and, in fact had just recently finished sixteen days of clown school.

The yellowish streaks in the model's hair were not intended to be quite so prominent, but it was so dark in the studio that I couldn't really see the streaks as I was painting them. It wasn't until I got the painting home that I realised how prominent they were. In reality the model has almost black hair.
