Omand's Creek runs through a part of Winnipeg's west end which is mostly industrial. The part of the creek depicted in the painting is almost at the mouth of the creek where it joins the Assiniboine River. The Assiniboine covers most of Manitoba, flowing east to west.

Manitoba has had a lot of rain this summer. As a result, the banks of the creek are quite lush.
