Pink Flower

watercolour
5.2" x 5.3" (13.1 x 13.5 cm)

Man With Bathrobe
ink and oil pastel
11" x 8.5" (27.9 x 21.5 cm)

The green and ochre pastel combination was chosen to add some interest to an otherwise simple drawing.

It might have helped the drawing if the ground line had been coloured with green pastel.

Blue Hat
graphite, pastel, and charcoal
12" x 18" (30.5 x 45.7 cm)

The model is a volunteer at a local drop-in centre. She has been through some hard times herself, but she keeps on truckin'.

Kneeling Girl

graphite, ink, and charcoal
11" x 8.5" (27.( x 21.5 cm)

A simple drawing done with pencil and brush, calligraphic in style, reminiscent, except for the subject, of Japanese sumi-e painting.

W.H.

graphite and ink
10" x 7.2" (25.4 x 18.2 cm)

The eyes are probably to close together in this portrait.

The model is a musician, a drummer, with an affinity for the great American jazz percussionist, Jack DeJohnette.

Pink Woman

graphite, ink, and oil pastel
11" x 8.5" (27.9 x 21.5 cm)

I like this work despite having some reservations about the proportions and the drawing of the face.

I find the model's direct stare quite engaging.

Portrait of a Young Man No.3
graphite, ink, and charcoal
14" x 16.4" (35.6 x 41.7 cm)

This is the last of three portraits of the same young man. It is probably the one that I prefer.

I like the relaxed pose and the overall composition, although I wish that I had done a liitle more with head, and that I had included just a little more detail.

Portrait of a Young Man No.2
graphite, ink, and charcoal
17" x 21" (43.2 x 53.3 cm)

The second in the series of three portraits of same young man.

Portrait of a Young Man No.1

graphite, ink, and charcoal
9" x 7" (23 x 18cm)

This is the first of three portraits of the same young man. The portraits were all done during the same session. The other two will be posted in the next few days.

Sitting Against a Wall

graphite, ink, and charcoal
19" x 15" (48.3 x 38.1 cm)

The model had his own title for this pose, which was something like, He Died With His Boots On. Unfortunately, or fortunately, he looks all too alive in this drawing to have used that title. Nevertheless, I did appreciated the pose and the suggestion.

Smiling Girl
graphite, ink, and charcoal
9" x 12" (23 x 30.5 cm)

This happy girl managed to keep smiling for the twenty minutes or so that this portrait took to do. Her boyfriend was sitting across from her while she sat for the portrait. Whenever she looked at him her face lit up with a radiant smile.

Such adoration would probably make most of us nervous. Her boyfriend, however, seemed to be taking it all in stride.

Sky

oil
5" x 7" (12.7 x 17.8 cm)

Another older roof scene, or rather, sky scene.
Nothing to get too excited about.

Branches and Roof, Winter
watercolour
3" x 4.5" (7.6 x 11.4 cm)

This painting, as well as Thursday's, Branches and Roof , are older works.

Fortunately, winter isn't yet upon us, although it won't be long.
