30.5 x 22.9 cm (12" x 9")
Local artists quite appreciate H. She's a big woman, not shy about modelling, who provides the artists with a different body type to draw. Part of drawing nudes, of course, is the study of anatomy, and since there is no standard body type, artists like to be presented with a variety of types.
Standing poses are never the models' favourites. They become uncomfortable in short order. H. held up remarkably well.

Mad Hair No. 2
graphite, ink, charcoal, and pastel
24.6 x 21.6 cm (9.7" x 8.5")
As promised, an unflattering portrait of a young dancer, who didn't seem at all unhappy to be sitting for a portrait. Although the drawing isn't far off as a likeness, the way in which the mouth and eyes are done certainly suggests unhappiness.
It's interesting how, when drawing, a line, here or there, can completely change an expression.

graphite, ink, and charcoal
27.9 x 21.6 cm (11" x 8.5")
This drawing is a little sloppy. Perhaps too casual.
I certainly didn't do justice to the model, a young dancer with a radiant face and very crazy hair.
I'll have another, even less flattering drawing of the same model tomorrow.
It's a good thing that models don't take drawings personally.

graphite, ink, and gouache
30.5 x 22.9 cm (12" x 9")
This was done last night. The model is an actor. Despite his intense and serious stare, he is quite light-hearted, and, in fact had just recently finished sixteen days of clown school.
The yellowish streaks in the model's hair were not intended to be quite so prominent, but it was so dark in the studio that I couldn't really see the streaks as I was painting them. It wasn't until I got the painting home that I realised how prominent they were. In reality the model has almost black hair.

Winnipeg's favorite model at work.
B. has appeared in many of my drawings, and hopefully, he will appear in many more.
One of my favourite drawings of B., from June 24, 2006 is Man With Arms Raised.
